Come hear the myths (or truths) about the dying newspaper industry as Mary Melon talks about the newspaper industry from a marketing viewpoint. She will explain how niche publications are positioned differently from general interest products and have a real opportunity to grow, even in this economy. She will provide tips and tricks on how to use them to offer targeted information to a targeted audience. She will share some of the marketing strategies that The Journal Record is using to broaden their reach, especially among the younger professionals. Mary Melon was named publisher of The Journal Record Publishing Co. in 2001 and president and publisher in 2006. Prior to that, she served as associate publisher and advertising director. Melon is a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma City and Leadership Oklahoma. She serves on numerous boards and has received awards from Association for Women in Communications, Oklahoma Quality Foundation and the YWCA. She was recently appointed to serve as the first woman on the Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority and Oklahoma City Urban Redevelopment Authority. She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and is married with one daughter.
